I'm thinking of sexing it up
My blog and I are having marital problems. I'm thinking of leaving it for something younger and blonder, something that won't require me to learn html coding and with nifty clip art.
No, no, no. I'm not going to stop WRITING the blog. I just wish I could easily put up links and pictures. I wish my blog was sexier. I wish it didn't wear footy pajamas to bed all the time and did something with its hair.
I started using Journalscape because one of my favorite writers uses it. (S.J. Rozan, in case you were wondering. A name I'd turn into a link if I could, but I can't because again with the not sexy business.) And it's free. And I'm all for things being free.
It's also easy to use if all you want to do is post text. But anything else requires extensive html knowledge, which I don't have. I did attempt to remedy this. I researched website coding for about twenty minutes before it became very clear that I don't have that kind of time. And really, all I'm sure I could accomplish with Journalscape is making website links. I probably still couldn't put up any pictures or other nifty stuff.
Not that there aren't advantages to staying put. It's obscene the amount of pleasure I get watching the hit counter click up. With every thousand mark crossed, I get practically giddy. And the thought of starting over at zero hits sends me running for the chocolate chip cookies that I will use to fill the dark emptiness inside.
And what of the YEARS worth of archived posts? Could I convert them to a new site? New readers tell me all the time - and by all the time, I mean five or six instances - that they like being able to read stuff they've missed. Also, the handy-dandy "subscribe to this journal" button is nearly perfect. Those that sign up get an automatic e-mail notification each time I post a new entry. No more checking in each day only to be disappointed. Instant gratification each and every time.
But think of all the cool blogging sites. Think of their web links and pictures and fancy formatting. It's like red lipstick and lacy lingerie.
So I turn to you, dear readers, for your opinions. Do you miss the bells and whistles of other sites when you come here? Would you follow me to another host? Do you think it would be worth it?
