Dispatches from the City of Angels

I'm a writer and humorist living in and writing about Los Angeles. You can catch my novel LOSING CLEMENTINE out March 6 from William Morrow. In the meantime, feel free to poke around. Over at my website you can find even more blog entries than I could fit here, as well as a few other ramblings. Enjoy and come back often.

The One About Me Not Being on Fire

Apparently CNN and its ilk are reporting that L.A. is on fire. It sort of is, but the greater L.A. area is approximately the same size as three or four New England states with D.C. thrown in.

I live on the beach, which is almost never directly affected by wildfire. All I'm getting are record high temperatures with no A/C and some monstrously bad air quality. There's a plume of smoke hanging over the entire city that looks like something out of Hiroshima, and I'm expecting falling ash.

Many thanks to the folks who've e-mailed to check on us. We're okay. And many thoughts for the folks much nearer the blaze. May the weather turn in their favor.
