2007-01-02 1:37 PM how to be popular Previous Entry :: Next Entry Mood: apprehensive. tired. stressed. Read/Post Comments (0) in preparation for vj tmr, i am reading a book.
entitled " How to Be Popular" by Meg Cabot. a selection of guidelines ( and my comments in brackets) i'm only doing this cos i cant write in a library book. popular: widely liked of appreciated; liked by acquaintances; sought after for company. (needless to say, i am clearly UNpopular) popular people have: - a friendly way about them (me? friendly. right. i'm never friendly) - an eagerness to pitch in and help get the job done. ( sure. or course i am. the sooner the job's done, the faster i can remove myself from social situations which require me to interact with others) - ability to emphatise with others (duh i can do this. thats the first step to analysing and exploiting insecurities through insults) popular people are: - genuine ( no comment. if i'm really genuine... well. i wouldn't be popular) - direct and honest. ( hahahahahaha) - respectful and polite to others (would insulting them throw me directly out of this category?) - cheerful and outgoing ( refer to enthusiasm comments) - having confidence in yourself is the one acessory no one can afford to leave at home. (sure. i mean, how do i leave something i don't have) - ENTHUSIASM is contagious and soon you will be too! (where do i begin. its just not me to be so enthusiastic.) - enthusiasm wins and winners are popular! ( erm...) i was beginning to think the book was a real waste of time. i mean, the advice is simply what it is. words on a book. a book, shelved in the popular fiction area of the library. it wasn't going to help me. but then i found little nuggets of wisdom towards the end. and as a approach a whole new chapter in my life, i'm soooo gonna remember these words of wisdom. Avoid popularity if you would have peace- Abraham Lincoln. Whatever is popular is wrong- Oscar Wilde Popularity is the easiest thing in the world to gain, and the hardest thing to hold- Will Rogers (yes! so why fight for a fleeting feeling?) here i come vj.
