Zombie Jokes and a Good Day

Zombie Jokes and a Good Day - First, the zombie reference. I was spending my evening with Jeff and Adrienne, explaining the numb-tongue and metallic-taste issues, and used a phrase we often throw around, "My head was filled with the dumbs." This naturally led into the concept that if your head is filled with dumb, what you need are more brains. Hmm, more brains? Need brains? Gee, is my problem really that I'm a zombie and didn't recognize it? Silly me! Of course! Numb tongue, everything tastes wrong, my head is filled with the dumb, and I need brains. Diagnosis complete: Apparently I'm a zombie. That explains it.

Okay, silly jokes set aside now.

Food Reports - My tongue is less numb than it's been for the past week, although the "things taste wrong" or "taste metallic" still exists. My food variety improved a tiny bit today: egg and cheese on english muffin, coffee for breakfast. Tuna salad (made with yogurt), lettuce, tomato, on wheat, and one of those half-sized green-fruit-and-things drinks (like Naked Juice or something), for lunch at the Getty. [More on visiting the Getty in a moment.] Soy latte, a bite of "orange scone with chocolate chips," and a sip of blended pumpkin drink in late afternoon. Chicken pot pie, a slice of bread, a Martinelli's "juice bomb" (berry? grape? apple?) and coffee for dessert, at Jeff and Adrienne's for dinner. The egg sandwich and the tuna sandwich tasted mostly okay. The texture was mostly enjoyable. The fruit juices were both horrible, but the content of the green thing was probably required. [Several people are leaning towards vitamin deficiency for an unofficial diagnosis, and I'm inclined to agree.] All day, the coffee was the only thing that tasted fine, and I'm having a hard time liking any fluids right now, so it's hard not to opt for coffee. Apparently the zombie-fication didn't mess with the bitter receptors on my tongue. I can actually feel most of my tongue coming back, and my teeth feel a tiny bit less metallic between meals.

I meant to cook this evening, but Jeff needed me for a thing ("You have to use the right tool, and this time I needed my Eilidh") And they made me dinner so how could I refuse? Plus, it gave me a chance to just relax and chat. And Adrienne looked up every symptom possible online, read to me from silly questionnaires, and we felt pretty safe that my current approach (Less Dumb, More Food Variety, More Vitamins) cannot hurt me, and can only help my overall health. Whether it fixes *this* set of problems, we'll watch over time.

The Getty - A bunch of us met at the Getty Center today, specifically to see the Belles Heures of the Duke of Berry on display. The manuscripts were incredible (as expected). Aliskye, Kythera, and I drove up together, and met Gemma and Ruan quickly in the Belles Heures display. We'd also run into Tetchubah, who works as a docent at the museum ("in real life"). She was helping staff the 11 am Garden tour, so we joined her group, and were also joined by Medb Renata and Aurelia. We enjoyed the historic and picturesque tour, the knowledgable and ever lovely Carolyn (Tetchubah), took lots of pictures, wandered past the outdoor sculptures (of monstrosity and atrociousness), and then sat down for lunch together. We all then split up throughout the museum and met back at the gift store at 3 pm. Five of us wandered off to afternoon coffee, after having forgone the tram ride and walked down the hill to parking in some very brisk and cold winds.

I found a wonderful book about Music in Medieval Manuscripts, convering some of the history of musical notation, plus depictions of notation and musical instruments in illuminated manuscripts. It's a wonderful little book, and will really kick-start some research I've been meaning to work on.

Since I'd carpooled with Aliskye in the morning, I wandered up to her place for a wee bit after we'd dropped off Kythera. We chatted about all sorts of things, relaxing and catching up, then it was time to get home. Then as I mentioned, I spent dinner with Jeff & Adrienne, worked on some more scarf crochet, and generally relaxed.

Today was a Good Day.

Today's Blessing That I'm Thankful For: Aliskye, for organizing our trip today
