There is nothing to read here. The content is over there, to your right.

I may, however, at some point, put something here. Some day. Eventually. No pressure.

review survey

Between online journals, written diaries and old calendars, I've been spending my first few moments of this year reading about 2003. I thought this survey (stolen from some anonymous poster at xanga) would be a good quick way to sum it all up.

I was wrong. Some of these questions have obvious answers but the others? not so much. I'll fill it in as it comes to me.

What did you do in 2003 that you'd never done before?
Drove Highway 63 within the speed limit.

Did you keep your new years' resolutions and will you make more for next year?
I don't recall making any resolutions other than getting/keeping in touch with friends. I did this, though not with any real effort.
I'm not a huge fan of "new year" resolutions - too much pressure. I make resolutions every morning, just to get the shit done that needs to get done.

Did anyone close to you die?
yes

What countries did you visit?
I barely paid attention to the country I live in. I went nowhere new.

What would you like to have in 2004 that you lacked in 2003?
Passion. For anything.

What date from 2003 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
October 5. For obvious reasons.

What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Quitting smoking

What was your biggest failure?

Did you suffer illness or injury?
Aside from self-inflicted head injuries with garden tools, I managed to not seriously harm myself. Colds, flus etc., weren't a huge bother.

What was the best thing you bought?

Where did most of your money go?
Into moving and back into the business, particularly after the break in.

What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Mars

What song will always remind you of 2003?
Notte di Luce

Compared to this time last year, are you:
a. happier or sadder?
sadder
b. thinner or fatter? probably fatter
c. richer or poorer? poorer, for certain

What do you wish you'd done more of?
Spoke of love, been patient, been honest, writing, drawing, reading, embracing new friends, whispering confessions.

What do you wish you'd done less of?
Whinging, using the term "in a minute", saying yes, restraining of emotions, thinking.

How did you spend Christmas?
With family and friends, at home. Mainly tipsy.

Did you fall in love in 2003?
No. Crushes notwithstanding.

How many one-night stands?
none

What was your favorite TV program?
Toss up between "Monk" and "Coupling" (BBC version)

Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No

What was the best book you read?
Fiction: The Da Vinci Code
Non fiction: Mythology: The Illustrated Anthology of World Myth and Storytelling

What was your greatest musical discovery of 2003?
Mario Frangoulis

What did you want and get?
new telescope

What did you want and not get?
more good hair days

What was your favorite film of this year?

What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Spent the evening with good friends. 32.

What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2003?
"*sniff* smells clean, it'll do"

What kept you sane?
Blurty; here; sketch pad

Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Fantasized about Steve Nash; thought I might love Johnny Depp but could never imagine being with a guy with better hair than me; every male journaler I read; still believe Kevin Newman might be my soulmate though Ryan Malcolm (the Canadian Idol) could be made my bitch.

What political issue stirred you the most?
The US in Afghanistan; people's indifference/ignorance of issues.

Who did you miss?
Cory

Who was the best new person you met?
Every blurtonian on my 'friends' list

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2003:
The world will continue spinning whether you participate or not; tomorrow happens. Love does count.

Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
[...]But I will not weep nor make a scene,
just say 'thank you, life, for having been'
The loudest cry under the sun above
is the silent goodbye
from the ones you love[...]
-Melanie Safka, "The Saddest Thing"
