[...]There are pieces of me, unquestionably, in all things I do. But what I DO is not who I AM. I suppose I lean towards the gestalt in this respect - the whole of me cannot be deduced by a summation of my parts.

Who I am is still up for grabs - I discover, I evolve but my "place" of activity is static. It becomes an internal moral/ethical debate: am I true to myself by fulfilling responsibilities and obligations that are indeed a part of me but not the whole, or should I seek after the full individual, seperate from such duties?

It's the micro version of the macro "good of the one vs. good of the many". Is being true to the self such an inverse to being partial truth to the majority? A question of objectivism, I suppose - though objectivism is not a philosophy I comfortably identify with.[...]
