Powerless sleep

My power got shut off last night. I'm not entirely certain why, either. I got my power bill a week ago, and I think it was due June 27th. This is a new service, so of course there was a deposit included in the bill. I got paid on the 25th, mailed the bill payment locally, and got home last night to find that my power had been shut off for non-payment. I called in, made a payment via phone, effectively paying twice now... if they apply both payments, which thankfully will be fine, albeit a tad inconvenient, then it'll be next fall before I have to pay another bill from them again. My bill, less the deposit, was about $11 for one month of use. I suspect the second month will come out to about twice that much since I'm home more now. So I'll have paid the $111 bill, and then applied an additional $111 to my account. Meaning that at about $25 a month, I've got about 4-5 months before I'll get another "you us money" statement.

Aside from being somewhat annoyed that the food in my fridge was going bad without any cooling power going on, I slept rather well last night. I've been somewhat insomniac recently due to the stresses of moving, and so not sleeping very well. My sheets may have something to do with it. They're the clear blue color of dreamy tropical waters that they show on cruise commercials on TV. So I dreamed of swimming last night.

Of course me sleeping well may also have had something to with the fact that Mom and I finished cleaning the old apartment last night, which surprisingly took very little time. We got there at about 8:00pm and left by 9:45pm. I've got one last truckload of stuff to unload into my apartment. Well, technically less than a truckload. Some of the space is being taken up by an outdoor table for my back porch that I no longer have. I'll miss barbeques. But someone, I'm sure, will get some good use out of it.

Mom is coming over on Saturday to help me unpack and organize my kitchen. I need to get rid of a good deal of my kitchen items due to a lack of space, and I'll have trouble sorting through them myself. I love cooking most of the time, especially when I have someone else to cook for. And despite the fact that I have no one else to cook for aside from the creepy guy next door to me, I'll still want to hang on to all these kitchen-y items "just in case." This is why my Mom will help me. She'll at least be able to ease the pain by adopting some of my precious things and giving them a loving home, thereby saving them from a dust-filled future in a basement.

At least I still get to keep my one Henckel's knife... It needs friends. If anyone is wondering what to get me for various future gift-giving holidays and birthdays, Henckels knives are it.
