Mood:
mime!

Reading: Fragile Things
Music: Violent Femmes
TV/Movie: Mirrormask
Link o' the Day: do not visit How To Mime

So I've caught up a little bit on lost sleep, although a bit of work still stretches on ahead of me. Fortunately, the weekend is here and I don't have anything else scheduled. I'd like to play catch up with everything. I'd like to likewise catch up on household chores. And I have a few movies that need viewing. (I've been waiting for some uninterupted time to sit and watch Chinatown--one of those flicks I really should have seen by now.

And Pretty Maggie has been very patient with me working, so it would be nice to just hang out with her for a while.

And after this weekend I hope to get back on track with various writing projects. Those keep piling up as well.

So is it me, or is Neil Gaiman's Fragile Things kind of a disappointment? Most of the stories don't grab me very much. Sure, there are a couple that are simply brilliant, but rather than reading each and every story, cover to cover, I find I'm skimming the stories until I find a good one.

I'm sure it's just a glitch. Or maybe it's me. I still think he's one of the best writers stalking the Earth today, but I guess you can't win them all.

Of course, Mirrormask, which I have on my little DVD player right now, is just a masterpiece. A little predictable in spots, but a technical and visionary masterpiece just the same. I need to find a copy of the BBC version of Neverwhere.

The other day I had re-vised the human form to end up with five hands for scratching, and I asked myself--how could I improve on this even further.
1. Bendable ears that could scratch themselves.
2. Sandpaper buttocks for scratching themselves.
3. Elbows that bend in every direction for scratching in all sorts of directions.

And I won't even suggest one other bit of anatomy that could be altered... for one thing I'm too fond of it to alter it, and second it seems unfair that only guys would qualify for this alteration.

So given two ears, two buttocks, and two elbows... our perfect human is up to eleven possibilities for simulataneous scratching.

It almost makes me wish had that many itches.

But I don't.

Next week's topic... belching as a superhero ability.

Ever want to learn the secrets of being a mime?

No?

Then this link isn't for you... definitely do not visit How To Mime. I certainly did not.

Cheers!
