A nice day today. I got most of the weekend chores out of the way early. Pretty Maggie bought me a little metal-encased Hello Kitty notepad the other night--perfect size for all those lists I keep making that keep me somewhat on track.

On the weekends I don't keep a daily list, but more like a weekend list. In other words, if I don't get to everything in one day, I don't worry too much about it. I got a decent amount of stuff crossed off the list so far, though. And it's technically a three-day weekend for me, so I have lots of time to do lots of stuff.

I went pricing banjos today at the local Guitar Center. Pricey, but then again, they usually are. There was a nice Deering there for around $500. Nice width on the neck. A good sound. A good price for something with a resonator. There was a Gibson there as well for $3,000 but I didn't care much for the neck.

I think if those are still my only choices when I have the scarouche together, I'm going to go for the Deering.

Spring is officially here. And I mean the good spring. Not the "man it's a mess out there, ain't it?" spring. Nice sunny day. Gentle breeze. We're starting to crack open the windows following a long, tedious (but not too brutal) winter. The mind also turns to spring cleaning. I want to reclaim my office, which is a horrorshow--and not the good kind. Trying to cross over to one of my bookshelves requires a lot of maneuvering and hoping to god I'm not going to step on anything breakable. I miss my art desk and want to do some painting again.

It should be a profitable adventure though. I was trying to find a book for Pretty Maggie last night and, which not finding the book, found a bunch of DVDs I have been looking for. Some fanzines. Some CDs. A spitting cobra.

I feel like Indiana Jones.

Pretty Maggie funded last night's trip to the bookstore. I got her hooked on Eric Flint's 1632 series, and when I couldn't find my copy of the sequel, and determined that my bank account wasn't ready for a trip to the bookstore yet, she decided she wanted to go anyway, and would buy me a book. I think the taste of Weber last week instilled a mood for space opera. I'll put Neil Gaiman's collection aside for a bit. Maybe I'll be more receptive to it in a few weeks. I'm starting the Vatta's War series by Elizabeth Moon with Trading In Danger so far, so good. I'm not going to try to compare it to anything. At least not yet. Right now it's all setup, but I remember some of the stuff she wrote with Anne McCaffrey, so I have high hopes.

Okay, signing off, but before I go, today's link sends you to the Baen Free Library. I've read a number of books here for free, only to go and spend a lot of money on more books by the same authors. Like crack dealers, they are. Crackerjack,

Cheers!
