Reading:Clerks and Chasing Amy: two scripts by Kevin Smith
Music: SModcast
TV/Movie: Juno - special features
Link o' the Day: Abyss & Apex

Work continues. Very much looking forward to the weekend. Don't know yet what all is planned for the weekend, but I'm hoping there isn't too much. I've been getting work done during the week, but slowly.

I know coming up will be a visit with Pretty Maggie's mother, which will be cool as we've not seen her since, I think, Christmas. And there is a plant sale coming up being held by a local community group Pretty Maggie is on the board for, so we can get a start on this year's porch garden.

Other than that, I think the board is clear. Mayhaps we'll get some good writing done. Mayhaps we'll get more done on Operation Clean Office.

I mentioned the movie Juno in a recent post. I totally credit Pretty Maggie with convincing me to pick it up. Granted, I've been wanting to see it, but I was going to wait for prices to go down on the DVD, or maybe pick up a used copy someplace, but I'm glad she convinced me otherwise. I've been watching the special features, and listening to the commentaries by Jason Reitman and Diablo Cody. Very well done. With the movie, all the extras, and the printed copy of the screenplay, you definitely get your money's worth. If y'all haven't picked up your copy of Juno yet, go ahead and get it, and go ahead and shell out for the Special Edition.

No regrets.

Pizza for dinner tonight. I forgot to take anything out of the freezer for dinner, so I think it's going to be frozen pizza.

I finished Elizabeth Moon's Engaging the Enemy in a shockingly short time. It wasn't a short book, but it was a total page-turner. The story continues to grow. the stakes get ever higher, and best yet, the characters have already undergone some significant change and growth. It really does make me look forward to the next book, which I probably won't be able to pick up for a while yet. That's okay, I have lots to read, and lots to write.

Yesterday I mention how odd some people might find me purchasing a collection of printed webcomics when the free ones are available online. I'm currently reading through the printed version of the scripts for two Kevin Smith movies: Clerks and Chasing Amy. Both of these scripts are readily available online. Okay, the book comes with a couple of extras. Some intro material by Smith, and some production stills, and other little goodies--but worth the extra cost?

Maybe not just for the extras. I enjoy reading scripts, and I find I can learn alot about screenwriting from reading different scripts from different writers. I think because kevin Smith directs and produces his own scripts, he has a tendency to skip over some details that other screenwriters don't. Nothing major, but I do sense a more informal approach than other scripts I've read.

Still trying to decide if that really means anything.

Other than that, these particular scripts seem most valuable in studying the dialogue.

Today's link goes to Abyss & Apex, a SF webzine that's been around a number of years and host to quite a good number of excellent stories. Check 'em out.

--Cheers!
