Reading: Penny Arcade's The Case of the Mummy's Gold
Music: NPR
TV/Movie: Boffo! Tinseltown's Bombs and Blockbusters
Link o' the Day: Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me

Like most people, I have a morning routine. For me, it's usually up before the cows to get the car out of the lot down the street, then off to Dunkin' Donuts (it's worth the trip!) for Pretty Maggie's breakfast and my coffee. (mmmm......coffee!) I may or may not swing by the drug store or supermarket for supplies, depending. But I always start the day listening to National Public Radio (NPR). I get the BBC world news, and then it cuts to the NPR folk delivering local and national news.

Now it's been a bit rough the past month. The news is bad. Recession. Unemployment. Unrest. It's been rough. Sometimes, after five minutes of gloom and doom, I turn to my beloved iPod. Sometimes it's so bad I turn the iPod directly to my comedy playlist. Ahhh.....Lewis Black...eases the pain.

But at long last I think they're catching on. Yes, Unemployment blip. Recession blip. But then they hauled the positive stuff out of the closet. Advances in fuel cell technology. Online Xmas sales doing much better than expected. People trying to do something about the recession, and not rely solely on the government. It's morning in America, and Barack Obama has been elected president.

That's more like it!

Last night while checking my e-mail before turning in, pop media raconteur Stefan Blitz IM'd me and offered me a sneak preview of a new website Forces of Geek that he will be unveiling next month. I, and about fifty others, will be contributing blog entries, reviews, articles and whatnot to this site and I'm very much looking forward to it. I'll be writing with a bunch of folk very active in the worlds of film, television, publishing, gaming, and animation. Stefan has posted a press release at his former blog site, ForcesOfGood.com.

I've been preparing some material ahead of time...and some reviews of both books and graphic novels. I'll probably be doing the occasional movie review there as the mood takes me.

If anyone has material they would like to have considered for review, please contact me at jdteehan (at) sff.net.

Today's link, speaking of NPR, goes to the homepage for one of the most entertaining radio shows on today...I give you Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me. It's a weekly hour-long quiz show with a gallery of amusing panelists. Listen to it on your radio (broadcast times available at the site), listen on-line, subscribe to the podcast, or download. It's well worth it.

Cheers!
