We had our first meeting with our social worker yesterday after work, Nancy Bortman. It was about an hour meeting. She asked about our families, our values, discipline in our childhood, that sort of thing. What led us to consider adoption, etc. She is coming to our house on June 30, 9am, to complete the study. Apparently we will be going over finances and the nitty-gritty of preparing to receive a child.

With every step closer, we are getting very excited. Also very tense, as the amount of money gets higher and higher. We don’t mind paying the required fees if that is what it takes to receive a child, but the numbers do seem a bit astronomical at times! Every piece of paper has a few-hundred-dollar fee attached to it. But imagining the child we will receive at the end of this road makes it all worthwhile.

Yesterday I also received all the paperwork I could have dreamed of getting. Copies of my birth certificate arrived, along with my amended passport (new married name). So we are all ready and armed with birth certificates, marriage license, and new passports. Bring on more paperwork!
