Newton comes and goes, but Magellan is here to stay. Roman is exploring absolutely everything! Things he took no notice of before, he's fascinated with now. For example: drawers. He pulls out all drawers, anywhere, including his dresser and our china hutch. The cats' water dish, ignored for so long; now all toys must go swimming. It's like he has hit the terrible twos early. He does actually throw a mini-fit when we "redirect" his attention. He has stamped his foot at me on occasion. I think we've got a stubborn one, just like his Mama. :)

Roman attended daycare for his first time today. I was nervous, worried about how he'd behave. When we came into the room and I put him down, he immediately went toddling off to play, without a backward glance to me. So much for worrying about his adjustment. He started playing with their toys immediately, rolled around on the floor by one of the caregivers, and basically couldn't care less if I was there or not. Which is a good thing. I went to the dentist, and then came home and went through his clothes (moving out the small stuff, moving in the next sizes).

When I picked Roman up from daycare, he was happy to see me. He didn't notice me until I was next to him; he was too busy climbing the soft mat pyramids and rolling around. He grinned at me, took my hand, and led me over to the large stuffed bear and snuggled him. The report we received told me he slept 35 minutes (that's ALL, all day) and loved it when they played outside. He did not eat much for lunch, as he preferred to play with the plate. He did eat a lot of Goldfish for a snack!

You may have noticed I mentioned "rolling" a lot. This is his new trick. He makes sure we're near, slowly lowers himself onto the ground, and rolls on to his back and grins up at us. He will lay there, rolling side to side, until we tickle him or wrestle with him. It finally hit Doug today - he's imitating our cats! Specifically, his love/hate buddy Merry. Merry is forever stretching out in front of us, rolling over to his side so we can pet his stomach. So we started "petting" Roman tonight and he giggles. Hilarious! Last night he rolled down the hallway, smiling the whole time. Doug said, "he's having fun." And it's true - he was generating his own fun for once, rather than us playing "at" him. If that makes sense.

Anyway, we then went to the local children's shoe store to get his first pair of "real" shoes. This place was recommended to us by a couple of coworkers of Doug's who grew up here. Roman is a size 5-1/2 *almost* wide. He's in a size 6 shoe. He likes to clomp around in his shoes. I took a couple pictures of him in his bright-white Stride-Rites. Say that a few times fast!

Doug and I both are suffering sinus/allergy symptoms. Roman started it, I got it yesterday, Doug today. I'm hearing it's pretty common right now. I've moved into "scratchy throat phase" which is much better than "sore throat phase."

Otherwise, not much excitement. I'm back into thinking mode next week with a week-long SS Institute.
