Magellan, aka Roman, is an impish sort. He has begun pushing and testing his boundaries, and our limits. We know he understands us now, and we have found it is time to start laying on the "guidelines." To assist, we turned to Love & Logic, which is a discipline technique I use in the classroom. Much of it is simply common sense, but sometimes you just need it laid out for you.

So Roman has had a lot of choices made available to him, has had some control over his life; and has also had some "crib time" when he's gone too far. We've noticed, after only 3 days of consistently using it, that with a simple "uh-oh!" in a sing-song voice gets him to freeze in his tracks, and even tonight he backed away from the cupboard he was attempting to root through.

He's also checking with us on his limits physically; it's rather amusing. We camped this weekend, and we were near a camp road. We made it clear early on that he had to hold hands when walking on the road, or he had to stop at the edge of the road. So Saturday afternoon, Doug and DadVE were watching Roman wander. Roman took a few steps parallel to the road, then stopped at the edge... turned and looked at them... gave them a big grin... and walked out onto the road. He is constantly checking with us now, making sure it's okay to do things. Pretty funny!
