Working on: a 2-day lesson on Israeli-Palestinian issues. Hmm, I know.
---------------------------------
So after long discussions with Doug, decided to go back to work full time. So I wrote my little request letter to HR, informed my principal, and crossed my fingers. Then hooray! I was notified that because of the large 8th grade class next year, I would be able to work full time. 2 7th grade, 2 8th grade, and an elective that I had proposed. I was even happier when our wage negotiations gave a nice little raise, 1.5% or something like that. So I was sitting pretty. Until....

The numbers started coming in. And coming, and coming... and West is over capacity. By a LOT. So the school board decided to redistrict 70 families and send them off to another middle school. Shifted some other numbers around and suddenly....

I was notified yesterday that I've lost 2 hours. I'm now down to 3 hours; 1 7th and 2 8th. Which makes me happy on the one hand to have 2 eighth grade classes, but we really could have used that $$. Principal said that based on move-ins over the summer, I'll probably be able to pick up 1 more class, but she won't know until August. Grrr. So now I am working 10:30 - 2pm. Which isn't bad, she nicely gave me a late morning and early afternoon.

On the plus side, my mentee, who was also threatened to be displaced to the other middle school, was notified he gets to stay. And that makes me happy. And lastly, turns out I almost got my own space. Myself and another colleague had offered to teach in a "portable" (one of those trailers they put in the back of schools). Our VP had actually checked into it for us and discovered we were "past the deadline." Grr x 2. So I'm cartin' it.
