I really do like Detroit. I agree with many who believe that eventually it can rise from the ashes and be, if not a "vibrant" city, than at least one that has something to offer to various people (instead of businessmen and the homeless).

But then, there's the mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick - voted one of the top 3 worst mayors in the country (by Time Magazine). So much I could say about him and his "boys", but the things I'm angry about is the history. The oldest continuously run aquarium in the country was located on Belle Isle in the Detroit River. It cost $500,000 a year to keep it running. Budget problems in the city - aquarium closed.

Budget problems in the city continue - Kwame announces he will cut all funding to museums and the zoo.

Oh, but then it comes to light that he charged $210,000 on a city-owned credit card. Most larger charges include a $5,000 suite in Vegas, spa visits for his bodyguard, limos for himself, beauty salons/day spas for his wife, and a trip to New Orleans for his family. Hmmm.

And NOW, a building on the National Historic Trust's "Most Endangered" list (and registered on the historic buildings list) is knocked down to make room for a parking lot. A damn parking lot! One of the many reasons why I should be in charge.
