Being Able to Observe from the Door as Someone Walks Out

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Left the house at past 10am this morning, so I went straight to the vegetarian store before going to school to buy two siopaos for lunch.
The academic service faculty turnover I talked about in one of the earlier entries has just been increased by one. This guy, the latest one to be hired, is also I think the earliest one to be replaced. There have already been complaints with him not being around when some of the senior faculty members needed him. Then it seems at the start of the summer vacation, he wasn’t coming to work either. At the start I thought it was just because he didn’t know he was still expected to show up even when most of the faculty did not have any load for the summer. But he recently talked to one of the former chairs of the department just as the former chair was writing a letter of complaint to the dean of the college about him.

It seems the guy has a personal problem that as overwhelmed him. He still should have informed the department of when he would not be going to school, because then he might have kept his job. As it was, when he did talk to the former chair, the central committee of the department had already met and decided to let him go.

Now he continues to show more signs of his incompetence. He was in charge of getting requisitions from the ITC for the different research groups here. One of the research group heads, wondering what had taken her order of printer cartridges and blank CDs so long, went to their office herself. She saw most of her orders had already been sent out and received by the ASF, but had been sent to the wrong lab rooms, which she had to trace by talking to the other research heads – not an easy thing to do since most of them are on summer vacation.
Since he knows he’s been sacked, the only way for us to assure finding out where he had put what equipment and what supplies (according to the chair) is when he tries to collect his last paycheck from the University, which requires him to get a clearance from the department signed by the chair.

It also seems one of my former co-teachers, who married and moved to Angeles in Pampanga and taught at Holy Angel University, will be moving back to Manila, and is interesting in joining our flock again. But because she left more than two years ago, she has to reapply: letter, transcript, recommendations, the whole caboodle. Since I was the one who took her call, I told the chair about it. Now he keeps asking me where she is, because he has to rearrange the plantilla for submission next week, and I don’t know what to tell him. Worse comes to worst she becomes the new ASF, so as not to reshuffle the teaching load anymore.
