Good Class Behavior Equals Good Organizational Work Skills

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

One of the things that was brought up during the Leadership camp with the purpose of getting the students to increase the quality of their academic work besides being good heads of their organizations was the prevalent practice of copying among the students, for both exams and assignments.

For one thing it shows a lack of pride in one’s own work and abilities that the student would not set aside the time to perform the task well, as well as thinking that someone else’s ideas would be better than their own to pass it off as their own to someone else.

And this leads to the real life practice of stealing, bribery and extra-legal under the table deals.

My own take on the matter is that something just as disappointing that the students practice is mediocrity in their own work, such as not submitting the assignments or not preparing enough for exams or other requirements.

This, just like the first negative trait mentioned, not only reflects in their work and life habits later on, but sooner than that shows up in their organization of student activities as well.

Some of them never get off the ground because of lack of a work ethic to keep it moving forward. Others come up with activities that can be considered failures or are close to being determined as failures, because they either did not plan or prepare enough, or – worse - did not follow through on plans brought up during the meetings in the first place that could have made the activity more of a success.

I have seen this happen several times in the student organizations of the past few years, and it wasn’t surprising, although it was very discouraging.

So it was good that the head facilitator for some time talked about the human characteristic of dignity and how some leaders know how to appeal to it positively and others, how to affect it negatively, because the students, especially the leaders of the Student Council and the recognized school organizations, have to have their share of this and be able to communicate that pride to their members to motivate them.

Session 1103’s copies. Class dismissed.
