Don't Want to be A Lesson Plan Nazi

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

One of the things I'm a bit concerned with right now is the fact that new teachers are handling a lot of the classes that I have been handling before.

In this list are Mathematical Methods One (that I only got to teach for three weeks last term), Trigonometric Applications (last taught in September do December of 2004), Introduction to Mechanics lecture (exactly one year ago) and lab (two terms previous), and Introduction to Electricity and Magnetism (just last term).

I've set a certain standard to the classes I have taught, and unfortunately I have the feeling that these new teachers are not handling these subjects even close to the way that I have been.

It's not egotism. For example, MM1 usually covers around seven or eight chapters for the entire term, up to logarithms and mathematical progressions, more than half of the textbook.

From the past terms I've heard that the teachers - even the one that took over the "honor's class" for me - had only covered up to inequalities by midterms - only the second or third chapter.

As for the classes last term, the students are mostly those who I failed.

Since the teachers are new, there is a possibility that they might be lenient with the students in terms of grading just because they are not as familiar with the material covered as I was.

So the students may pass in those subjects, and prefer those teachers just because of that, and not because of expertise, so to speak.

But is it otherwise preferrable to have cookie cutter teachers in all subjects, or covering a variety of styles that are effective in their own way, or to compensate for the different preferences of the plethora of students as to their education?

Isn't there a happy compromise of a fence that can be toed between the two? Or just like in the world, is it best to let all kinds exist?

Session 1327 gave leeway because of the novelty to the subject. Class dismissed.
