Starting with Those Lined Notepads Then Removing the Lines Later

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

In the first meeting of my general science requirement mechanics class for the second week of the third term, I was still deciding up to the last minute if I would review the concept of constant or average velocity or if I would go straight to talking about uniform acceleration.

I went for the first option, coming up with examples out of the blue again, and not bothering to enumerate all the possible scenarios about two objects or vehicles in motion that they could encounter for this topic.

I did give to them the pattern of the solution, which is that at least one of the three quantities needed for solving the velocity is equal for both objects.

Then, there should be a unique equation relating the two vehicles, such as the sum or difference of their distances or the difference between their times.

I’m not sure what to make of the fact that there are no questions during my lectures, but according to the exercises they are answering, there seems to be general comprehension except for some minor details.

In the meeting of my Electromagnetic Theory class, I talked about the different set ups for solving the electric force of a particle at different positions relative to a line of charge, repeating the first part of what was supposed to have been my first lecture two meetings ago.

There was actually a minor correction in the last part of the first lecture second set-up with the particle at a certain distance perpendicular to the line of charge but off-center, which, since no one seemed to bother to check in their notes, there was no comment about.

This is where some of them noticed that their method for answering the first assignment was correct, but they did not solve to the end, which was a shame.

I also showed that what looked like a difficult set up was actually the merging of two earlier simple setups as different lines of charge.

Session 1483 is just quiet. Class dismissed.
