The Pros and Cons of a Floating System or Structure

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

As the title of today's student friendly version suggests, it's only two days until the start of the new term and the new school year.

Even though last Friday was supposed to be the submission of all the syllabi for the teachers who have received their course assignments, that doesn't apply for those of us in engineering.

Why? Because until that day, all our load was still being shifted around to make way for the one teacher who backed out, another who applied and wasn't accepted, and another who can only teach part-time.

All of these I've detailed in the past few days in different entries.

For me, though, that's even compounded by the fact that I will be out of the office from Saturday to Tuesday, so I will only be able to scramble for the syllabi of the class I'll meet on that first day itself. My only consolation is that for some of the subjects that I am supposed to teach, the students who got a glimpse of the entire week's schedule will have most likely the wrong idea as who will be teaching their classes.

I don't know though if it is still a problem with the students checking out first who will be the teachers in the subjects they are supposed to take, and if they don't like them, will drop the course.

I haven't seen that happen with the students who have approached me for advising the past week, and there were a lot.

In fact, I was even asked to sign the forms of some computer science and business administration students, although only for those who are changing minor subjects. One CS student, I had to refer to his original adviser about changing one of his major subjects which were in a chain, and of which he failed one. So I couldn't let him take the next one.

Can I even say that the hitches in the enrollment procedure have been reduced in number as the years go on and administration adjusts?

Session 1631 want organization, but revel in the loopholes as well. Class dismissed.
