The School In Their Minds Not the Same As The One We're Working In

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Yesterday I couldn't meet with my Graphics Two class because of the computers having been used in Saturday's programming contest not having been returned yet.

I don't even know if the technicians are going to return the computers to their original places, because that's where my students had saved the back-ups of their exercises that they submitted to me via diskette or upload.

I'm even wondering why the lab itself could not have been used for the contest, since there is an existing network to link them to the auditorium anyway.

And yes, the coach herself and the students have admitted that they (and I assume the other teams) were mired with technical difficulties during the contest itself.

This is not the first time that the school has been plunged into an event for outsiders where an administrator's promise to host and be a venue has led to stress for the personnel trying to fulfill the grandiose requirements.

There have been disappointments in the past (on the part of all the parties) but somehow that optimism about putting up an impressive even if physically taxing display persists – on top of the teachers' and staff's regular jobs keeping various aspects of the school running smoothly.

And to consider also that several other offices were inconvenienced pulling out printers exclusively for their use, even the teams fielded by the school for the contest.

Not to mention that it also happened on a day when there were three other events happening in the various sectors of the school so that the physical facilities personnel were really overtaxed, and some of them went on a leave yesterday.

I hope nothing like that happens again in the future, until the school has more employees to be able to handle it all without too much stress, or having to juggle.

Just for once I'd like to see the administration have realistic expectations about the capabilities of their employees here, instead of always believing in the best even though it's not realistic and goes against what the person believes in himself. Good thing if they're inspirational, but they're not. It's just borderline delusional, that positive belief.

Session 1875 doesn't even listen when someone says they'd like to take a break from work. Class dismissed.
