P: A Variety of Social Interactions

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

There really are people out there who's first instinct on being confronted by a problem is to talk to someone about it.

But the question is: who do you talk to? Is it someone to just commiserate?

Or will it actually be someone who can help bring about the solution to your problem?

Listeners come in both types of packages too. There are those who believe you approached them because you are looking for a grand solution to your problem. Others just know that you are an ear to lean on, or something like that, nothing more.

There will also be those who will deliver platitudes that will not necessarily solve the problem, but at least help lessen the stress on you for a while, or to realize that it's not as huge a deal as you first thought, changing your perspective.

@@ Speaking of problems, I overheard this quote from someone recently.

"Just for once, I would like to be the person with whom a meeting is too important to cancel or postpone or will not understand if it doesn't push through, instead of being the one who always has to give way when an individual I'm supposed to be with says something more crucial has come up, even at the last minute.

"Do unto others, man. If you keep doing this to me, there will be a time in the future when you'd like to schedule an appointment with me, but I have to beg off because you're also the lower priority, or should known how it feels when the shoes are reversed."

I guess that's where I got the notion of mixing metaphors that I did at the start of this post. But hey, that's how to keep the language alive.

Session 2209 was unburdening on someone who didn't know what listener role to assume. Class dismissed.
