A/T: A Teacher Practicing Careful Recycling of Exam Questions

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

In my Computer Architecture class last Tuesday, their first exam was exactly the same items that I had for the final exam of my Computer Circuit Fundamentals class last term, for which, thankfully there were no overlapping students from both classes.

Two of the six students in that special class are repeaters from last term (one had withdrawn, the other failed with a final standing of 36%), taking up Computer Science (one 4th* and one 5th year).

*This is lack of motivation student that I've been talking about before. Curiously, he didn't attend the exam again, just like the first two exams last year in the same subject before he withdrew, even though he took the first two exams in the Computer Systems Organization class in the same term.

I don't know if it was because of lack of confidence in knowing the subject or just a huge freaking coincidence with his mood.

The other three are fifth year Computer Engineering students.

One is a fourth year Co.E. student who is supposed to be regular, but for some reason (maybe conflict with another class) did not take the class with his three batchmates the term before.

The coverage of the exam included conversion of values in eight and sixteen bit registers from decimal to hexadecimal after performing mathematical operations, the three basic interrupts used for displaying a string, a character and for reading a character from the keyboard, basic if-then-else, and stack operation sequences, breaking down of relatively complex commands into simpler ones, and conversion from ASCII code to decimal of digits and vice versa.

Going through the answers with them earlier, there were still some blank stares about how to proceed with some of the questions, but in the end, after I explained, there were no requests for reviewing some topics before we went to the next lesson.

Session 2211 finds it all so simple when the teacher explains, but draws blanks when solving alone. Class dismissed.
