A Pavlovian Experiment In the Classroom

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Things in my assembly language class are somewhat better these days.

Remember that my tactic against a certain student relying on what's written on the board for his notes, even if it means not listening to the lecture, is not to write everything down.

Now, only once in the classroom does he do that, asking about a part of the chalkboard writing that we've already gone through.

When he does ask, I face the rest of the class and say, "What did I say about that earlier?" and give whoever answers a recitation grade.

After that, instead of asking me, he asks the smartest guy in class, either because he gets straight answers without any lip, or he is building rapport to make sure he passes the course.

@@ One of the technicians from the science labs has now been temporarily stationed in the electronics lab, just so that there is someone guarding the equipment all the time and making sure the students are not playing games on the computers.

If it becomes a permanent thing, I won't be so reluctant about it.

@@ The parents of college students' organization board will have a meeting on Saturday, and they have asked the student organization presidents to be there as they have a standing request for financial aid for their talent show to be held in November.

I don't know if I will be on the side of the students defending their proposal or if I will be criticizing it along with the parents.

I will only find out on Saturday. At least I warned them to prepare.

Session 2415 now finds the idea of being in a faraway place relaxing. Class dismissed.
