Christmas Celebration Off to A Bad Start

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Not for the first time, I have come to school expecting to get a lot of work done in the morning only to be greeted by an intermittent internet connection that doesn’t stabilize until an hour or so before lunch.

It’s getting to the point where it’s more reliable to get work done on one’s computer at home at night then just hoping that everything could be uploaded in the few minutes around 8am that the net is stable.

That’s also true because of the fact that sometimes Internet Explorer will suddenly develop an error and close, taking with it all that I have written in the journal page’s text box with no hope of recovery.

And since the audience here isn’t the students, then I can also talk about some of the online games I’m participating in, where there are advantages to logging in at least once a day, the day for them marked as twelve noon to twelve noon here. So even though I don’t log in yesterday because of circumstances of being off the net, I was at least hoping to log in before noon. Sadly, that’s not granted.

@@ I’ll just talk about some aspects of the advent candle lighting that I won’t be posting about in the student accessible version.

First of all, the college student participants: three were from the student council, three were from the theater group (one of whom was only drafted to read the prayer at the last minute and even hesitated).

I could only commend one freshman for showing up and being part of the singing pair although she only learned the song last night.

As for the theater group’s skit: I thought it was going to be about the gospel reading on John the Baptist.

Sadly, it wasn’t. It was a somewhat generic piece about a husband and wife who got into a typical argument, and even sat down to supper without speaking, while their thoughts are voiced out for the audience’ benefit about who should apologize first for their behavior. Too bad the rationale given for their individual sides are teenage, making me suspect that just like with the short play they performed for the literary fair last August, that this was self-scripted.

Bad enough that the other one performed before had no point except for a guy who hangs out with friends (making fun of the call center culture) and gets cut off from his funds by his father, who happens to die.

The present one could have been better, tailor made for the students instead of showing a marital scenario.

Of course, there will also be the jokes about the couple saying “I Love You” to each other onstage.

Also, after the orphanage people performed, why wasn’t the donation given to them in front of the audience and no opportunity for the students to approach them allowed, and maybe give their own donations?

Session 2469 could have planned it better with the students beforehand. Class dismissed.
