Good Working Practices Will Out

Student "edition" found at {thoughts dot com slash typed no space out no space loud slash blog}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Slacker co-teacher cleared out his cubicle yesterday. He even asked one of the maintenance staff to borrow a trolley to bring them (several boxes worth) to his car in the parking lot.

My only consolation is that just as he was putting away his "most comic professor" award from last school year, he dropped it and the head came off. Yeah, am shallow-mean.

Sure some of my co-teachers are saying the administration will regret having such an experienced teacher replaced by at least two new graduates, and that the quality of education will go down.

But I say: good riddance to his easy way out attitude. At least these new teachers can be trained away from the "laziness pays off now" point of view they've inherited.

@@ Sometime ago I talked about not knowing how to deal with the superstitions of the work force.

They believe that if sales are low, it's because of the certain people present. What's funny is that it's near-scientific, the logic and pattern analysis that they go through to reach their conclusion.

But what's sad is how much they hold on to their belief that their conclusion is correct.

Sure, I hold some truth to the notion that the presence and aura of a certain person in a place of work can affect the potential clients' willingness to spend money for services.

But I also believe that people can change their outlook and become a positive influence.

Well, they seem to believe that as well, but only when it suits their theory. Sometimes I'm tempted to record all their conclusions and see how they wheedle their way out of the data the does not support their hypothesis, or if they'll just scratch their heads.

@@ As an employer, I also want to be able to teach them ways for them to keep their earnings, instead of spending it all in one go when they have more cash at hand than they usually do.

But then again, if they are taught well enough, does that mean that they will no longer need to be employed as such?

@@ Last night was also the first night that we opened beyond closing time, just because one client showed up fifteen minutes before last acceptance, and even though another arrived after last acceptance, it was a regular who didn't have any preference for attendants, so it was chalked up to another ring of the cash register.

Session 2669 doesn't know though if the same experience will be had of my colleague accepting more clients at the end of the day as long as there's still another client inside, and staying up and open past midnight, even up to 1am . Class dismissed.
