Parroting The Higher Ups

Student "edition" found at {thoughts dot com slash typed no space out no space loud slash blog}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Wow, my dreams are coming true, in a literal sense that is, not that it means all good.

Over the weekend I dreamed that the student council's request for a variety show for Friday was declined.

Up to yesterday evening I was afraid that since there was no action on their letter, that they would go ahead on the assumption that it had been approved, which is bad in itself.

The letter returned from the head of the foundation week committee head with a request for a detailed description of their activities, which I had told them Thursday night they needed.

I don't know if I already mentioned it (wait, click 'previous', ah, no, I haven't) that the council members showed up with their letter on Friday afternoon, and it was a short request, no details.

If I weren't such a patient man I would have screamed at them already at that point for not doing what I asked.

Anyway, when the letter was returned to them by the head of human resources, somehow it coursed its way back through the office of the dean. That's where she put her foot down.

I told them I'm not surprised about it given how disappointed she was that morning with the non-materialization of the college exhibit in the central lobby. I should be glad that the editor in chief of the school publication is also the daughter of one of the integrated school teachers, so she got immediate flak about that, but more on that later.

The reasons the dean gave for the non-approval was that it was too late and that it was not in line with the theme.

Anyway, I'm glad that even though she's also probably annoyed with me for letting their letter go through, that she did put her foot down. At least it means my warnings rang true.

This was when I told the student council that even though I did agree to let their plea go up to the committee heads despite my initial disapproval (in other words allowing them to go over my head) that it did not automatically mean approval. I warned them that just like the attitude of our graduate who was in the headlines last year and is now in jail, not everything that has been decided on can be negotiated after the fact.

On a related front, one of their members now has a problem with her position because of personal conflict with another of the members, who she courted towards the end of last school year.

Well, I could say I saw this coming knowing she broke up with last year's president to be with this guy, whom she obviously flirted with in the first place, same as the new/old guy.

Session 2737 will not say the word to describe this behavior based on a Greek mythology female. Class dismissed.
