Knowing and Wanting What's Coming to Them

Student "edition" found at {thoughts dot com slash typed no space out no space loud slash blog}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

I wonder if it would be better for me to introduce my students to the idea of having a reward system.

That is, first they have to do a bit of hard work before they can reap the benefits of doing something they like, such as playing games.

Would they actually be able to hold themselves back from getting that first marshmallow right now?

Obviously, I am drawing parallels with this to the two marshmallow supposed emotional intelligence test.

@@ Okay, I did not have a plan for an elaborate Halloween costume today. But apparently, I was still recognized.

Students said I was Russell from the Disney and Pixar movie entitled *Up*. And Pixar is in the spelling checklist.

@@ I was not expecting this reaction from my robotics lecture and lab class when they saw that the parts of the Mind-Storms Robotic Invention System had been arranged for the students slash athletes from the sports camp for their convenience. They did not like it, saying they could find the parts better when it was not arranged. I just told them they cannot complain because they did not go here to supervise during the camp last Monday and Tuesday.

@@ After two foiled attempts as online delivery in the past three weeks, these students of mine are trying again.

Last time we had put the office landline as the contact number. I hoped that it would not have as much static and feedback as when they called my mobile number, but they did not call.

The same was true three weeks ago when I put in another mobile phone number to my former file.

They were able to call that second number last week, but there was still that high-pitched feedback preventing me from understanding half of what she was saying. I just said yes to everything.

Now it is a third mobile phone number they are using, owned by a student. Also, they are ordering as early as 4pm, instead of waiting until 6pm like last time. If the call does not go through, I guess they want to have an alternative of either calling again or ordering somewhere else.

@@ During our trip to the beach last weekend, apparently the seniors forgot to invite someone who texted us on the Friday night before we left, asking if we were available for a meet-up at the strip mall near the school where she had seen us for the past two Fridays before that.

But since I did not know if she was invited and might resent it if she was only told that late, I just said everybody had left early, not saying where they went, why they all needed to go home early, and where they were going.

This Friday hang out, arriving as it does on the night before Halloween, is in reparation of a guilty conscience for that oversight.

Well, it is nice to know there are still people who feel bad that way about innocent mistakes.

Session 2853 would do them the same honor, if ever. Class dismissed.
