Bite Hand Feed Generation

Student "edition" found at {thoughts dot com slash typed no space out no space loud slash blog}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Trust the students once again that if you give them a hand, they instead want an arm and a leg.

This is in regard to the lecture and lab separation. All the comments I have been reading so far is that the students, if they have passed the lecture but failed the lab (or vice versa) want to be able to take the next subject's lecture even if they cannot take the lab and have to repeat the lab of the previous subject.

They do not seem to get the idea of a co-requisite in that the lecture and lab subjects are supposed to supplement each other and even though it does not happen in practice, in theory it should enhance the learning experience to be taken simultaneously. Of course, they will not see that now, being as shortsighted as they usually are, but they will realize it too late when they go to work.

@@ I was talking in the student accessible version about how a complete stranger was the first to reply to get the copy of Princess Bride that I wanted to give away to friends. Apparently the guy just searches the short content sites for the key words give away and replies to them.

Now I am having second thoughts whether I should send it to him, because instead of going to someone I know who will appreciate it, it just goes to a free loading hoarder who will probably just resell it.

@@ The time squeeze I mentioned in the student accessible version that happened yesterday afternoon was because of the scheduled WII session with some faculty members and operations council members.

There were only three of us though, one of who was only there from 5pm to around 630pm, the other from 6 to 7pm.

I ended up putting away the laptop, the projector and the WII by myself then lugging everything back to the faculty room. So it really was not just a two-hour workout for me but longer.

@@ What more can be said about the past two days? A situation that I have been ignoring (in the sense of ignoring a child throwing a tantrum, hoping he would notice that it does not get the attention he is seeking) finally came to a head Sunday night. And it was right at the time that there was difficulty getting a ride from the place. So I had the choice of going back the person I visited there, or, as luck would have it, ride on the first available public transport that stopped in front of me.

I chose the latter, and just proceeded with the reprimand (the equivalent of the months of not reacting blowing like a volcano) on text and with a call where the other party was surprisingly quiet despite how voluble and tactless the texts were. What is funny about the situation is that I was ignoring the texts that were borderline tantrums, but on the next day, it would be as if nothing happened.

Only once (now twice before the reprimand) was it ever clarified if I had received a text that I had ignored, and I feigned ignorance.

Now I am receiving twice as many texts as before, to ensure receipt that is. My next excuses now are a full inbox, and being at a place where there is no network or limited service, which does happen. But hopefully there will be no more intrusions of that nature, to prevent another blowup.

For reference, I will be saving in my mobile phone a template that says that is a question best asked and answered face to face.

Session 2911 still regrets the missed post yesterday. Class dismissed.
