A Cry For Something

Student "edition" found at {thoughts dot com slash typed no space out no space loud slash blog}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

I just realized that I actually had two almost consecutive posts where I was almost begging for someone to comment, and none did.

Not that it means I am disappointed. It was just a weird subconscious trend that I saw after the fact.

@@ Sometimes the voice of a person can be really irritating especially when you know that there is not much substance in what he says, just relying on an American accent to give an air of knowledge.

@@ So there was the interim board meeting of the association of college parents last night, from 6pm to 9pm.

It turned out that the members only had to remove either the quorum part of the by-laws or the no-proxy voting, but not both.

I also helped them expand the definition of when a member parent has to step down (after death/incapacitation or dismissal) which only mentioned transferring to another school. We added filing a leave of absence (for more than one term, in case of illness or being an exchange student - if it more than one trimester, the parent should step down), withdrawal and expulsion.

We also added the word immediate to that clause, otherwise it is assumed to be at the end of the term.

There was one slightly disturbing turn to the meeting though, which is when the interim president talked about hiring a secretary for the group to be housed in the office beside that of the dean.

She said that due to the backlog of documents that have to be filed (again because of the negligence of the former president) with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the bank where their money is kept and with the local government (also part of being an SEC-recognized body, I think), that they would hire a secretary besides a Certified Public Accountant.

What I did not like is that she said this secretary would also be doing the work for the student of filing their documents and getting quotations for them, since they are here for academics, not paperwork drudgery.

Drudgery is my word, not used by the parent. But apparently her son had already complained to her about it.

Anyway, thankfully there were other parents who vetoed the idea, saying that it would not do to spoon feed them, and that the students would be able to use that practice and procedure in their career.

After that another parent said that from what she knew the students actually enjoyed that kind of work.

I do not know about that, because I know that the first parent would not have mentioned it if there was no whining on the part of the child.

Another good thing that came out of the meeting was determining that the school can actually be the one to send a letter to the bank saying that the former signatory is no longer recognized in that capacity as the association president, therefore allowing them to freeze the account whose money really belongs to the school.

Session 2951 believes more evidence will be found that will support the filing of a criminal case. Class dismissed.
