Working with My Hands and Mind Again

Student "edition" found at {thoughts dot com slash typed no space out no space loud slash blog}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Wow, just like I was star struck being in the company of the incoming brother president for the next school year for around fifteen hours the day before Valentine, this time I was in awe of being in the presence of several members of the board of trustees, some of whom are career businessmen who own more than one company.

Yeah, that makes me such a lowlife but except for the parents of Justin, this was the only time that I shook hands and was in the periphery of people who could, in one decision, spend millions.

And, seeing as how we were talking about bringing the interactive science exhibits to the campus, I had their ear as well.

Now that makes me, in retrospect, not that the time, feel like the character of Jodie Foster in Contact as she tried to convince companies to invest in her time listening for aliens.

Except, of course, that this was actually a foregone conclusion when we got there; they were all for it.

It was just a question of how I was going to position myself for the new game of the millennium (sorry, getting into full Contact mode now, that I have seen several times, twisting quotes).

And I am glad that I was able to tell the current president about my steering towards that direction.

Yes, even though I cannot consider myself yet as a mover and a shaker (or is it shaper?) of even small stature (all my decisions still have to be approved by the dean) for even one moment I was glad to be among them and get a chance to be noticed and possibly blest.

These were the men (and woman) who held my future in their hands (not completely, I could still not ask for the position or turn it down if they did offer it but not entirely to my liking) and I wanted that rare opportunity I was given to count.

This was, after all, a chance that almost did not happen when the secretary to the president told me that despite the president saying I could go when I asked him about the trip, that it was still a board of trustees meeting and they might talk about something confidential that I could not be part of (even if I could just step out of the room).

I was and am very grateful to the brother president for the tag along, and getting to see me at my strength.

Yes, I agree now (not that I have ever denied it) that my forte is in interactive science and not in student affairs.

I do still act like a teacher in that role, but only to try and prevent students from taking shortcuts that will not make them learn any valuable lessons for later in life.

Session 2977 has two paths in front, one less traveled; the other worn and thoroughly enjoyed. Class dismissed.
