Trying On Different Hats

Student "edition" found at {thoughts dot com slash typed no space out no space loud slash blog}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Surprisingly here I was again rubbing elbows with greatness for the second day in a row.

This time it was the dean of the school of design and arts of CSB, after we had talked to some of their graduating students about fashioning us school attire for the college.

I had first contacted the generic email from their website, but as luck would have it I was also able to meet another of their deans, who was a student in the main campus the same time as me.

She got me in touch with some personal emails, and I was finally able to contact the right dean.

As we tried to arrange a meeting with the students they recommended, I had asked for a venue there for us to use. The dean of course, passed me on to his assistant.

After our meeting, I wanted to thank the secretary for her assistance, and she told me the dean was there.

So I had to sit down with him and his students, emphasizing about proper credit to be given to their portfolios.

Of course we would not deny them that honor, mainly because we probably also cannot pay them.

After all, even our brother president was thinking of asking a well known designer alumnus, whose younger siblings still studied in one of the campuses, for help pro bono.

I guess that is how they become deans, thinking ahead to all these details like needing suppliers and tailors for the prototypes, things ordinary mortals usually do not see.

And to think, he literally stayed at the top of his world, the highest floor of the building where he held rule.

From what I was saying in the student accessible version on the crowding in the elevators, he probably has his own private express car at the back of his office for convenience.

@@ All these brushes with power have made me realize something. I am already on the stepladder towards becoming one of them, although some would insist I already am.

I do not feel like it. I still think and act as a faculty member, which is probably what the students who do need to get my approval for their activities do not like; they want leeway.

Do I want to be up there? Will I do more good here instead? Can I discern correctly the larger view or is my vision really more suited for the literal microscope?

Session 2979 is on the fence or the fork in the road again. Class dismissed.
