This past weekend was interesting. We played D&D Friday night, and it was fun, although not a whole lot that was essential to the plot went on. Every single one of us was at least partially sleep deprived, and we were all giddy, and silly, and very, very out of control. Still, it was fun! We actually wrapped things up by 11, and got out the door promptly, which made Pita very happy.

Saturday was interesting. Work sucked, as always, but I did get some good news. I had finally told Lisa to ask Joseph for a raise for me on Thursday, but I couldn't get Lisa to tell me what had happened. I got an answer from her Saturday afternoon. What was going on was that she didn't want anyone else at work to know I was getting a raise, because no one else there is going to be getting one any time soon. I had asked for at least a $0.25 raise, but she apparently had to fight tooth and nail to get me what she did, $0.20. I'm not upset - I figured she'd just get shot down entirely. It was a struggle to the money because the store is apparently completely in the toilet. They've been loaning $5000 a month from the Pacific Palisades store to ours just to keep it afloat. Fortunately, Lisa prevailed.

Sunday was going to be a day for me and Pita to go furniture shopping, but we got kind of lazy, and mostly just puttered around my room for a while. I did help dad set up the ridiculoudly powerful home theater system he got for his bedroom on Saturday. It's a 700 watt Sony surround system, with separate receiver and 5 disk DVD/CD units, a 100 watt subwoofer, and 120 watts per channel for the other 5 speakers. He got it for $300, off of Fry's regular $499 retail. It's really pretty disgusting. The cool thing about it is, he may let me and Pita take it with us when we move out at the end of the month.

After we went out for a while, Pita and I met up with her friend Ashley to go see Fahrenheit 9/11. We almost didn't get in on time, since the ticket lines were monstrous, and there was a jam-up at the concession stand, too. But we made it in, and I sat down to watch a movie I had been waiting for for quite some time.

People who know me know that I can go from 0 to enraged in about 4.5 seconds. I've never been one who can fully control his outbursts of righteous indignation. This movie had me on the verge of screaming obscenities at Bush's image on the screen. I veered from heartbroken, to sickened, to outraged, and back to sickened again, with some stops on the way for laughs, so as not to explode. I literally felt sick when the movie was over. I like to consider myself fairly well-informed; I keep up with the news, and I try to research stories that sound fishy. I was certain I knew of everything that had gone on with the election shenanigans 4 years ago.

I'm a fool. These people have gotten away with so much, and with so little comment, that I am simply flabbergasted. I left that movie furious with the administration, furious with my party leadership, and, most of all, furious with myself, for only paying lip service to my beliefs and principles. I kept wondering how things would have been different if all the people out there like me, who told themselves "I don't need to march, look at all the other people doing it," had gotten off of their asses and acted. Could they really have silenced us all, if we had all made our voices heard?

I guess we'll find out this fall.

And for anyone who hasn't seen the movie yet, see it. Left or right, or undecided, it will make you think, and reconsider, and, thank god, it will make you talk. That's what we've needed for some time now. A dialogue. Maybe we can actually make a change for the better now.
