Last night was my 10th high school reunion. It was an interesting evening...I'd been sort of dreading/looking forward to it lately. I guess I wanted to see old friends and acquaintances, but I wasn't sure I wanted to talk about where my life went after HS. But I went, and I'm glad that I did.

Of course, getting there in and of itself was an adventure. It took us 2 hours to get downtown from home. The 101 was essentially a mess all the way in (something at the Hollywood Bowl, and then a backup from the 110 because of the USC game). We got there eventually, but I was royally cranky by the time we did.

Pita and I went in to the hotel and found the site. As we walked in, I looked around for people I knew, and realized that it was a much smaller gathering than I had hoped for. I had sort of figured that I either everyone wouold be there, or now would be there, but it was something in between. I turned to my right, and saw at the table in front of me 3 old friends who I hadn't seen since our trip to Europe after high school, and they happened to have 2 empty seats at the table, so we joined them.

It was nice to see people again, and catch up. We talked about people who hadn't made it, and tried to figure out who was still in touch with some of those people. We all caught up on what people did after high school, and what they were doing now. It's somewhat sobering to know that you have multiple classmates who have kids, and careers, when you're not yet contemplating kids, and not even close to on your career path yet.

On the whole, it was a very nice evening, and I got to catch up with some people who I dearly missed. It was a little sad that some people who I really missed didn't make it there, but I guess that's just the way it is with these things. Hopefully, next time the location will be a little more accessible, and won't require braving downtown traffic on a busy weekend.
