Dear Bruce Springsteen,

You rock man, you totally rock. And I’m not just saying that. Your stuff is good, “Glory Days,” that’s you, right? It’s got that drive, that umph, that makes my head start bouncing, and the lyrics, they make me sad--they’re hard to hear. So, maybe it wasn’t such a stretch when you took on the great folk legend, my hero, Pete Seeger. I still love Pete, I revere Pete, nothing is going to take me away from Pete Seeger, but your “Dan Tucker,” it’s got chutzpah; it’s got soul. I’ll sing along with every song on the album.

Or maybe I’ll just stay very very quiet because every time I blast “Dan Tucker,” my baby stops screaming and looks attentively at the speaker, and by the time we get to “Oh Mary Don’t You Weep,” his eyes are closed, and he is asleep. The babysitter discovered this after three walks around the block, the bottle, and lots of bouncing failed. He just put you on and put the baby out. It worked again in the car and again and again.

Have you ever tried to get a baby to sleep? Have you ever faced a three hour car ride with a baby who was going to scream the whole time? Even if I hated every track, we would be playing that thing from Seattle to Chelan. But it’s good. It’s really rockin’ good. God bless you, Bruce Springsteen. God bless you for putting my baby to sleep.
