I am a literary mama!

I was so bummed that Salon.com's "Mothers who Think" column went defunct before I had kids. And, then hurrah, along came Literary Mama. They just accepted my piece, "Fire, Aphasia, and the Spirit Word." It should appear in April.

Let's just take a moment here. Getting a piece accepted means I wrote it, workshopped it, and revised it. That actually happened four years ago. Then it sat. Then I finally prioritized writing enough in my life to revise it again, get advice on where to send it, write the all terrifying cover letter, send it out, and revise it based on the editor's comments. The last part was actually a joy.

Thank you Alle for encouraging me to send out my creative non-fiction.

Thank you, Shari MacDonald Strong, creative non-fiction editor at Literary Mama, for telling me my piece was not, in fact, creative non-fiction, but a literary reflection and sending me to the right editor.

Thank you, Caroline Grant, literary reflections editor for giving me such great critiques. The piece got tighter and more vivid.

Now, I would love some gentle pushes to send out the essay and poems that got rejected recently.
