look at that fat man!

"Look at that fat man!" my daughter says loudly pointing across the crowded diner.

I immediately handle it wrong. "Rose that's not nice," I hiss across the table, hoping the man, who is indeed quite fat, can't hear either of us. "Should we go talk about this outside?" I am using a not so nice voice.

Of course, Rose has no idea what she has done wrong. Luckily, she solves the mood problem by coming to sit in my lap, and we go back to watching Daddy wrestle the knives, plates, water glasses. etc. away from David's reach.

Back at the house, I've had a little time to prepare. So, Rose and Miriam gather round for the lesson about people with wings.

Let's say you saw someone walking down the street who looked different, maybe they had wings. Maybe they were really proud of having wings and wanted everyone to notice, then it would be great to say, "Hey, look!" But maybe they were shy about their wings, then it might make them feel sad if you pointed at them. So, if you see someone different, like a purple person, you could tap me on the shoulder and quietly tell me about them. Usually, a grown-up can figure out whether the purple person wants you to say something about it.

For instance, when I had purple hair, I adored comments. But we didn't get to the role playing.
