My friend Jed posted an entry the other day bemoaning all the stories where a person sees something impossible—a glowing orb, a talking plant—and wonders if they are going crazy. He then asked what would you do if you met magic?

Debby: What do you want a story about tonight?

Rose: Rose turning into a fairy.

Debby: Rose was playing outside. She was blowing bubbles. She blew one bubble and it popped on the stairs. She blew another bubble and it popped on a tree. She blew one more bubble. It floated up into the air, popped, and out came a fairy.

Rose: A real fairy?

Debby: A real fairy. And the fairy said, “Hi, Rose. You’re a fairy too. Come fly with me.” And the fairy took Rose by the hand and they went up, up, up in the air. They danced all around the clouds. They climbed up rainbows and slid down. They played on the top of trees.

Rose: Did she sprinkle fairy dust and make her mommy a fairy too?

Debby: That’s exactly what she did. Rose said, “Can I make my mommy a fairy too?” And the fairy said, “Sure.” And they sprinkled fairy dust and then they made a staircase out of bubbles, and Mommy climbed all the way up and gave Rose a big hug. Then they all danced around until Mommy said it was time for dinner.

Rose: Did the fairy come back the next day?

Debby: Absolutely.

What would Rose do if she met magic? She’d say, “I’ve been waiting. What took you so long?”
