swish

His cousin Ariana taught him how to play swish. You lie back in the bathtub and swish your head back and forth to get all the bubbles out. David loves this game. He insists on taking a bath with me every morning. (I would prefer a shower at that hour.) And then he stays in while I’m getting dressed, tilting his chin up and even getting his ears wet. I can’t wait for swim lessons next summer.

throw the tomato down the street

David was losing it this afternoon, just one grump after another, so I suggested we go outside. He wore Rose’s shoes, Rose’s scarf, a pink hat with a felt flower, and yes, I have a picture. Normally, I don’t let my children pick the neighbor’s flowers, but Sully’s family have invited the neighbor’s to pick the tomatoes in their front patch, and besides they are done for the season. David got a green cherry tomato and threw it down the sidewalk, the sidewalk on a hill, so down it rolled. This was the funniest thing he’d ever seen. He was cracking up so hard I thought he would fall over. We did it all the way down the street.

chalk art

Any art project is more clean-up than art and after picking chalk pieces off the ground for the third time, I may bag this one for awhile. First, we paint the paper with a wet paintbrush. Then we draw on the wet paper with chalk. Frankly, the book made it sound a lot more exciting than David and I considered it. Next time we are going to dip truck wheels in paint and roll them on paper because I am gluten for clean-up.

hanging out at the coffee shop

I don’t drink coffee. David can’t eat the baked goods, but boy, do we like hanging out at the corner coffee shop. This is because of the wonderful owner, Sean. He is totally kid friendly. There are kid books, low couches, and often other kids to play with. Dirty looks for loud children? Think the opposite of that. Sometimes when David is feeling grumpy, we head down the street to get distracted by Sean. At first, we just visited and went on our merry way, but I made the mistake of introducing David to steamed milk. So now, he plops himself down at the table, and I plop my money down. We hang out and make friends.
