the case of the plumber who billed for fictitious work

Remember the big flood? In between mopping and running the shop vac, I spent the day calling plumbers, water damage repair, home equipment rental. . .Well, I dropped one ball. I set up an appointment with a plumber for the next day, and promptly forgot when I got someone to come in two hours. The next day I was out renting the last dryer in town when he came. I know because there were phone messages from his dispatcher saying he would stay ten minutes and then go on to the next job. I know because I got a bill.

Now, I didn’t want to eat a 70.00 house call for nothing, but I would have. Except there was something on the bill. He “inspected the drains in the basement.” That man never went in my house. Either he screwed up and billed me for work somewhere else, he crept around the back of my house without permission and called it the basement, or he flat out made it up.

I was so mad I was shaking. I immediately called the company and asked to speak to a manager. Not home. I left a message and forgot about it until the next bill came. I called again, same thing. I called again, and this time I left a long message with the dispatcher. I was going to go to registered letter next. But, finally, three days later, the manager called me back. I explained about the strange bill, and he said he would make it go away. That was a good customer service choice, but making me wait two months? I won’t be going with that company again.
