carrots and pears

In Health and Fitness class last week, the divine Mr. M. talked about the importance of fruits and vegetables, so Rose has been asking for carrots and pears with every meal. It's not like we haven't been providing fruits and vegetables at every meal and talking about how important they are for a growing body and modeling good eating habits. Once Mr. M. talked about it, it was a lock.

family night

So, one night at dinner, Rose says, "Can we have a family night?" I'm looking around like what would you call us all sitting down at the table together listening to you sing songs about the Thanksgiving turkey in between telling David to sit down and eat his cheesy breadsticks?

"Like where we play games together and stuff." I'm still thinking did I miss something because we just threw the beach ball back and forth, built a fort out of Lincoln logs, built and flew paper airplanes, made towers out of the backgammon pieces, colored, and read five books.

And then I get it. "Did this happen on Arthur?" The lovely little moralistic t.v. show has been urging my daughter to set aside one night a week for family time. My daughter, who is fond of complaining that she doesn't get enough attention now that she has a little brother and wasn't life better as an only child, has been captivated by the idea of more time set aside for her. I don't mind Mr. M.'s influence, but Arthur just doesn't fit my life.
