I have a job, whoo hoo!

I have paid employment for the first time since last March. Yippee!

It's not that I've been actively looking for work. But when a mom of one of Rose's classmates, a woman who I've become friendly with and who knows I am a writer, offered to have me proofread a business book she's been writing, I said a big old yes.

At first I was really nervous because careful attention to detail is not my forte. I'm really good at making your prose sing, not as good at making sure all the sub-headings are using consistent capitalization. But as often happens with me and big unknown projects, once I finally start, I realize I can do it. I am, indeed, making sure the ampersands are consistent, but I'm also making sure the tone is consistent and no sentence is unbearably ugly.

I probably bid the job way under market, but it feels like a lot of money to me, and if I'm not as fast as I think I should be, I don't have to worry about wasting the client's money. It's a short book; I'll be done by next Friday.

So, if you feel like pulling me away from writing poetry, sending poetry, and watching Battlestar Galactica, feel free to offer me a job.
