I just heard Simon Armitage read. He was phenomenal. His poems were witty, deep, dark, full of unexpected twists and heart break, and did I mention funny? Even better, the man can read. This may be the best reading I've ever been to from a purely performance stand point. He was a like a combination of a stand up comic doing dead pan humor and a Shakespearean actor delivering the most powerful lines in understated control.
