Weeks Falls

We had our second hike of the season. Hike is not really a fair term, leisurely walk in the woods is more fitting. After the 2 mile round trip to Franklin Falls that totally burned David out, I was looking for something lighter. Weeks Falls is 1 mile round trip and completely flat. It was so flat I thought I was walking on a road. Last time it took us something like 1.5 hours to make the 1 mile given the stop for lunch and the stops to pee. This time we reached the falls in about 15 minutes. It hardly seemed worth booting up. But, enough with the kvetching, much went very well.

We managed to leave the house at 10:00, our targeted departure time. This is really important because as we learned last time, if you get started too late, you try to hike hungry.

There was much less whining and "are we there yet?" in the car. Maybe the kids were in better moods, maybe I picked better listening material. On the way back, we heard the book Chitty Chitty Bang Bang chapter by chapter. That kept everyone quiet.

The woods are lovely dark and deep. It makes a difference to actually get out of the city and into real forest. We went a bit past North Bend to Ollalie State Park. It was very quiet and the ground the soft that only comes from forest time.

No mosquitoes, not too hot, not too cold, no one fell in water or off cliffs. The hiking sticks continue to be a hit.
