Sometimes pobiz is a way to cheat, to pretend I'm working on poetry when I'm actually just shuffling papers and addressing envelopes. But today the pobiz had to happen. As I may have mentioned in passing, I finished the current incarnation of my poetry manuscript. So for the last few weeks I've been researching contests, getting the manuscript photocopied, addressing envelopes, and getting more and more flustered. Every contest has slightly different guidelines, and they get mortally wounded if you screw up. They take it as a personal slight. How do I know? That say so. So, a lot of deadlines are Saturday. That's why I needed them in the mail today. I spent the morning misplacing the stamps, forgetting to put return addresses on, triple checking the contest entry forms, and getting more and more nervous.
