got a job lined up

So, the head of the department stopped by to chat today. She asked if I wanted any classes for next year. Luckily, I had prepared for this moment, so I didn't have to freak out before saying not this year but next.

I do not want a job until David is in kindergarten. I want to write poetry and bore myself silly reading David books, pushing him up the sidewalk on his bicycle in the cold rain, yanking his hand away from writing with red pen on the wall yet again, and answering his interminable questions. (Can you tell we had a not so good afternoon rattling around the house?) But despite afternoons like this, I am choosing to spend most of my time snuggling instead of worrying about topic sentences. And let's not forget the poetry.

However, once David starts kindergarten I'll have lots more time. (All my stay at home mom readers are now seriously laughing up their sleeves because they know pulling the kids out early for the dentist appointments, writing grants, volunteering for the book drive, chaperoning the field trips, and the constant shuttling to events can easily make for a full plate.) So, I'll have lots more time, or at least enough to teach one or two courses a quarter during school hours, plus time to exercise and write poetry.

It was nice to be asked.
