We live in the Pacific Northwest. When we say going for a hike, we mean old growth forests, mountains, and cascading waterfalls. So, this city hike can't really measure up. The people working hard to kick out the invasive species and reclaim the land as a city forest are committed and excited. My friend Ellie is also committed to and excited by this swath of forest in process. That's why David, Rose, and I were hiking there with Ellie and her daughter Esther. But, I can't really get excited about views of the train loading docks and the dump. That said, we had a fine time. It was a gorgeous day, fifties and sunny. (And for those of you who don't live in Seattle, we are bursting into bloom here. Whoohoo!) The kids only complained a tiny bit. They enjoyed stomping in the mud, and it was the right length for them. It took us an hour and a half to leisurely walk down and back up. Everyone seemed fine, but the post hike melt downs let me know it had been a fair bit of exercise.
