it's probably not broken

On Monday, David jumped off a wall onto a concrete path. It was a high wall, too high. He started screaming the minute he hit, but on inspection, he didn't seem twisted, bruised, or swollen. And after a few hours, he also didn't seem bothered by it. So, we settled into a wait and see mode.

He limped around for a few days, seemed to be limping less, and then seemed to be limping constantly. A few nurse friends suggested he might have cracked his heel bone. By then it was Thursday heading into a holiday week-end, and we continued the wait and see mode. Today, we took him to the doctor.

He probably did not crack it. We don't know for sure because we didn't get it x-rayed, but the doctor pushed on the heel pretty hard, and he didn't object. Again, no swelling, no bruising. We had him walk up and down the hall putting his heel down, and he did fine. And when you ask David where it hurts, he now points to his Achilles tendon.

So, the doctor suspects that he probably bruised the heel, but then got in the habit of limping and strained his Achilles. It's probably good we went in because I would have continued to urge him to avoid putting his heel down, and now, I'm urging the opposite.

We did get a prescription for an x-ray in case it doesn't get better in the next few days. Await further developments.
