David's first swim class

Ask David about doing rocketship. Ask him about ice cream scoop hands. Ask him about Buzz Lightyear arms. Ask him about swim class. David had his first swim class ever without me.

It's a miracle. You don't know what a miracle this is. I spent two years trying to make this day happen.

David doesn't like group activities.
David doesn't have any friends in the class.
David doesn't want a learning curve. He wants to know how to swim, not learn how to swim.
David is afraid he will drown if I'm not there.

We've been working on all of this. We've pointed out to him that he taught himself how to sit up and walk, that he is capable of learning. We've been doing enough swimming together that I told him he basically knows all the stuff they were going to cover in the floater class. He can blow bubbles, put his ear in the water, kick. I told him I would jump in and save him from drowning.

I don't know why he finally let go of my hand and joined his class. He was thrilled and extremely proud of himself. As he should be.
